the peaceful ghost dance started by by desparate indians hoping for freedom, from the the greedy white man and his government caught on and was adopted by many tribes which frightened the us government that an uprising was in the making which was brought to an abrut end in the slaughter at wounded knee i have collected several renditions:.
i did not know then how much was ended.
when i look back now from this high hill of my old age, i can still see the butchered women and children lying heaped and scattered along the crooked gulch as plain as when i saw them with eyes still young.
A recent favorite of mine-- John Trudell: Look at Us
...an artist Kris Kristofferson once called "a crazy lone wolf, poet, prophet, preacher, warrior full of pain and fun and laughter and love...He's a reality check. Justice is a fire that burns inside him. His spirit cries out for it. It makes him dangerous."
The dangerous poetry and visionary music of John Trudell was forged by an extraordinary life, lived out in heart of the land and its people. Born of mixed tribal blood, John grew up in and around the Santee Sioux reservation near his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. The struggle against economic and cultural deprivation would, in time, become the raw material for his uncompromising artistic vision.
Trudell, a Vietnam Veteran, served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967, attended college for a while and then dropped out. In 1969, Trudell participated in the occupation of Alcatraz Island by Indians of All Tribes, becoming a spokesman for Indians of All Tribes. After the Indians of All Tribes occupation ended in 1971, Trudell worked with the American Indian Movement, becoming national Chairman of AIM in 1973. Trudell was chairman of AIM from 1973 until 1979. In February of 1979, Trudell's mother-in-law, wife and three children were killed in a fire of unknown origin. It was through this horrific tragedy, that Trudell began to find his voice as an artist and poet, writing, in his words, "to stay connected to this reality." "The lines were my bombs," he continues, "my explosions, my tears."

yesterday, when i was driving to work i heard on the radio that ingmar bergman had died.
i was a big, big fan of his.
he really was a master filmmaker, he truly knew more about us than anyone else; what its like to grieve, to see the world through the eyes of a child, to know the pain of love, and loss.

ahh i suppose after posting a bit its time to say hello.
hello people, all of you :).
who am i, well i'm the middle child of my parents, who are ex jw's, so i'm not sure if that makes me one since they stopped attending jw occasions when i was 11, but having experienced being part of it, and having not enjoyed it i can say i class myself as an ex-jw.
You don't have to be any particular kind or calibre of ex-jw to be considered "family" here...you don't even have to be an ex-jw at all. So welcome, and thanks for the introduction. I think it will be nice knowing you

Wednesday, July 11, 2007
The European Commission has issued a final warning to the National Roads Authority concerning the building of the M3 motorway in Meath. The letter dated in June says that the ongoing demolition of the Lismullen monument near the Hill of Tara is illegal, and that Ireland will face legal action this autumn.
The roads authority is continuing to record and destroy monuments in the path of the road, mostly recently a site at Baronstown which was demolished in the middle of the night last week.
Independent MEP Kathy Sinnott says road works must be stopped in the area at least until the Commission comes back after the summer.

i told my wife i was going to sell everything: the houses, the investment properties, the cars, the boat, the business and give it all to the poor.
she accused me of being a hypocrite because jesus didn't have any of the things i do, including "a place to lay his head.
" so i lay down the challenge: i told her i would get rid of it all.... tomorrow.
I'll throw these out there, if someone feels like giving even just a little bit...

Old-line Republican warns 'something's in the works' to trigger a police state
By Muriel Kane
Jul 20, 2007, 10:09
Thom Hartmann began his program on Thursday by reading from a new Executive Order which allows the government to seize the assets of anyone who interferes with its Iraq policies.
He then introduced old-line conservative Paul Craig Roberts -- a former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan who has recently become known for his strong opposition to the Bush administration and the Iraq War -- by quoting the "strong words" which open Roberts' latest column: "Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran."
"I don't actually think they're very strong," said Roberts of his words. "I get a lot of flak that they're understated and the situation is worse than I say. ... When Bush exercises this authority [under the new Executive Order] ... there's no check to it. It doesn't have to be ratified by Congress. The people who bear the brunt of these dictatorial police state actions have no recourse to the judiciary. So it really is a form of total, absolute, one-man rule. ... The American people don't really understand the danger that they face."
Roberts said that because of Bush's unpopularity, the Republicans face a total wipeout in 2008, and this may be why "the Democrats have not brought a halt to Bush's follies or the war, because they expect his unpopular policies to provide them with a landslide victory in next year's election."
However, Roberts emphasized, "the problem with this reasoning is that it assumes that Cheney and Rove and the Republicans are ignorant of these facts, or it assumes that they are content for the Republican Party to be destroyed after Bush has his fling." Roberts believes instead that Cheney and Rove intend to use a renewal of the War on Terror to rally the American people around the Republican Party. "Something's in the works," he said, adding that the Executive Orders need to create a police state are already in place.
"The administration figures themselves and prominent Republican propagandists ... are preparing us for another 9/11 event or series of events," Roberts continued. "Chertoff has predicted them. ... The National Intelligence Estimate is saying that al Qaeda has regrouped. ... You have to count on the fact that if al Qaeda's not going to do it, it's going to be orchestrated. ... The Republicans are praying for another 9/11."
Hartmann asked what we as the people can do if impeachment isn't about to happen. "If enough people were suspicious and alert, it would be harder for the administration to get away with it," Roberts replied. However, he added, "I don't think these wake-up calls are likely to be effective," pointing out the dominance of the mainstream media.
"Americans think their danger is terrorists," said Roberts. "They don't understand the terrorists cannot take away habeas corpus, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution. ... The terrorists are not anything like the threat that we face to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution from our own government in the name of fighting terrorism. Americans just aren't able to perceive that."
Roberts pointed out that it's old-line Republicans like himself, former Reagan associate deputy attorney general Bruce Fein, and Pat Buchanan who are the diehards in warning of the danger. "It's so obvious to people like us who have long been associated in the corridors of power," he said. "There's no belief in the people or anything like that. They have agendas. The people are in the way. The Constitution is in the way. ... Americans need to comprehend and look at how ruthless Cheney is. ... A person like that would do anything."
Roberts final suggestion was that, in the absence of a massive popular outcry, "the only constraints on what's going to happen will come from the federal bureaucracy and perhaps the military. They may have had enough. They may not go along with it."
